The Lagos State Police Command on Monday arraigned a 27-year old drunk, Rashidi Sikiru, over the alleged murder of one Akeem Jimoh. The accused is standing trial on a charge of murder before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Maria Dauda, told the court that the accused, while drunk, allegedly stabbed Jimoh on his neck with a broken bottle which led to Jimoh’s death.
Dauda alleged that the accused committed the offence on April 20 at about 10.00 a.m., at Orisa Junction, Imude in Ajangbadi, a suburb of Lagos.
She said that the offence contravened Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The magistrate, Miss K.O. Ariyo, refused to take the plea of the accused on the ground that the court lacked the jurisdiction to entertain the case.
Ariyo, however, ordered the police to continue with its investigation into the matter.
She also ordered that the police should duplicate the file case after completion of its investigation and send it to the state Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPPs) for legal advice.
He ordered the accused to be remanded at the Ikoyi prisons and adjourned the case to June 13.(NAN).
