A driver suspected to be drunk on Friday killed two police officers attached to the Oyo State Police command in Ibadan, the state capital.
The incident, DAILY POST learnt on Saturday, occurred at Orita Challenge area of the ancient city.
The two officers attached to the Special Rapid Squad (SRS), it was gathered, were hit by the drunk driver and reportedly died as a result of the accident.
An eyewitness said the policemen who had just finished washing their operational vehicle at a car wash in the area, were about entering the vehicle when they were hit by the driver.
Another eyewitness said the driver was discovered to have drunk.
It was also gathered that the driver has been arrested by men of the state police command.
Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the state police command, Mr. Adekunle Ajisebutu, while confirming the incident to DAILY POST Saturday evening, added that the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abiodun Odude has ordered thorough investigation into the accident.
Ajisebutu, in a brief SMS sent to DAILY POST, said, “The CP, Abiodun Odude, has ordered a through investigation into the accident.
“The erring driver is in our custody.”
Ajisebutu added that the driver would be charged to court after completion of their investigation.
“He will be charged to court after completion of investigation,” he said.
