Didier Drogba has insisted that he is yet to retire from playing football as claimed by French newspaper, L’Equipe.
The Montreal Impact striker, who is under contract with the club until December 2016, says his future has not been decided yet.
On Wednesday, L’Equipe claimed Drogba had phoned Impact president, Joey Saputo, to personally inform him of his decision to hang up his boots.
But the Ivorian has tweeted that he had not yet made up his mind.
He wrote: “Lovely to receive these messages, but I have not yet announced my retirement and I am still in discussion with @ImpactMontreal about my future”.
Montreal Impact Communications, Director Patrick Vallee also told ESPN: “[Drogba] never called Joey [Saputo] to tell him, ‘I’m going to announce my retirement.’
”The first sentence of that [L’Equipe] article, which is the most important, is not true,” he said. “Maybe Drogba is going to retire. That’s an option for him. But right now, if he’s doing it, he never said it to our president. He never announced it to Joey first.”
