Driver in court for alleged cheating, resisting arrest


A 36-year-old driver, Usman Ahmed, on Tuesday appeared in a Mararaba Grade 1 Area Court, Aso Pada, Nasarawa State for alleged breach of trust.

Ahmed, who resides at Sabon Gari Mararaba, was arraigned on a three-count charge of resisting arrest, breach of trust and cheating.

The Prosecutor, Cpl. Friday Adaji, told the court that one Maina Daniel of Angwan Hakimi, Mararaba, reported the matter at the ‘A’ Divisional Police Station on Jan. 24.

According to Adaji, on March 3, 2015, the accused who is a friend to the complainant, collected the sum of N100,000 from him to make some repairs in his car.

“The accused promised to pay back within one week but instead he absconded to an unknown destination until on Jan. 24 when the complainant saw him at Angwan Gwari Area Nasarwa State.

“When two police officers went to arrest the accused, he resisted arrest and pushed one of the police officer,’’ he said.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened Sections 171, 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.

The accused pleaded not guilty.

The Judge, Mr Albert Maga, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N100, 000 with a surety in like sum.

He ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, have a traceable home and work address.

Maga adjourned the case till Feb. 4 for further hearing. NAN
