Driver bags one month for impersonating policeman in Nasarawa

A Gudu Upper Area Court in the FCT on Wednesday sentenced a 31-year-old driver, Emmanuel Sambo of Mararaba, Nasarawa State, to one month imprisonment for impersonating a policeman.

The judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, who handed down the verdict, however, gave Sambo an option of N5, 000 fine.

He warned the convict to desist from committing crimes.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Sambo had pleaded guilty to impersonating a policeman.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Augustine Urom, told the court that ASP Jeremiah Zumnan attached to Intelligence Bureau, FCT, arrested the accused while on patrol on Oct. 30.

He said the accused who was arrested at Asokoro, Abuja, introduced himself as a policeman and a forged identity card in the name of Sunday Idachaba, was found on him.

Urom said the accused also confessed that he fixed the passport photograph of Idachaba on his identity card.

The offence contravened Section 132 of the Penal Code, Laws of the Federation.
