A 50-year-old driver, Olusanya Peter, who allegedly killed a man due to reckless driving, has been charged before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun.
Peter, who lives at No. 18 Oretunde St., Iyana-Ilogbo, Ota, Ogun State, is facing a three-count charge of manslaughter, reckless driving and damages.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Abdulkareem Mustapha, told the court that the accused committed the offences on April 17, at about 4.30pm at Adeba, Idiroko Road, Olorunda Village, Ota.
Mustapha said that the accused drove a Mack truck with registration number AAA-666 XF, in a reckless manner that resulted in the death of one Daniel Faroyi, 25, and damaged a vehicle belonging to Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC).
He said, ‘’ The offences contravened Sections 5, 6(1) and 17 of the Federal Highway Act, Cap. 135 of the Revised Laws of the Federation, 2006.
However, the accused pleaded not guilty.
Mr Mathew Akinyemi, the Chief Magistrate, granted the accused bail in the sum of N300, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Akinyemi said that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed.
He also ordered that the sureties should show evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government.
In addition, the addresses of the sureties should be verified by the police.
The case was adjourned until July 23, for hearing.
