Driver arraigned for stabbing neighbour with broken bottle


A 39-year-old driver, Azeez Kolawole, who stabbed his neighbour on the neck with a broken bottle, was yesterday brought before an Apapa Senior Magistrates’ Court sitting in Lagos.

Kolawole who resides at Ibadan Street, Benna Bus Stop, in the Ajegunle area of Lagos, was arraigned on a one count charge of assault.

The prosecutor, Cpl John Iberedem, while testifying in court said the suspect had on May 15 at his residence attacked one Jamiu Isiaka with a broken bottle.

Iberedem added that the accused act caused Isiaka bodily harm.

While narrating what happened, the prosecutor said, “The complainant said he was in his room when he heard Kolawole beating his wife.

“Isiaka left his room to settle the fight between the couple when the accused stabbed him with a broken bottle on the neck.’’

According to Iberedem, the offence committed contravened the provision of Section 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Kolawole however pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Senior Magistrate, Mr G.L. Otepo, consequently admitted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000, with one surety in like sum. He adjourned

the case till July 7.
