A mild drama occurred on Wednesday in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital as members of state House of Assembly in a show of solidarity to the state governor, Ayodele Fayose held a plenary session in the middle of a highway.
The lawmakers, who were protesting against the freezing of Fayose’s Zenith bank account by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, sat under a canopy with placards carrying various messages.
DAILY POST recalls that the EFCC had on June 21 frozen two Zenith bank accounts belonging to Fayose for allegedly receiving $1.2bn from the Office of the National Security Adviser, ONSA, for his last election.
EFCC claimed the said amount which emanated from ONSA was part of the N2.1bn arms fund.
The lawmakers, however, accused the Federal Government of deliberately manipulating security agencies to intimidate and harass Fayose over his consistent criticism of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s policies.
Some messages on the placard reads, “We are ready for arrest”, ”Harassing Ekiti lawmakers/government won’t give you 2018,” “No matter your media trial and blackmail, on Fayose we stand” and “Leave Fayose alone.”
