Dr. Abubakar Olusola Saraki, a former Senate leader and the godfather of Politics in Kwara State, has died this morning. It is reported that the Waziri of Ilorin, died at his Ikoyi, Lagos residence, in the early hours of Wednesday. It is believed the politician had been ill for a while.
His son, Senator Bukola Saraki, has left Abuja for Lagos, to convey his father’s body to Ilorin, where he will be buried according to Islamic rites.
Saraki, a University of London graduate, was elected as a Senator in the Second Republic in 1983 and rose to become Senate Leader. He became a National Leader and member of the Board of Trustees of the All People’s Parrty (APP) in 1998 but switched allegiance to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), under which his son, Bukola Saraki became Governor of Kwara State in 2003.
