The Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR, has sealed up 6 filling stations in Port Harcourt for selling PMS above the official pump price.
Some were also sealed for hoarding the products and mischievously adjusting their sales machines to cheat the ignorant public.
The Zonal Operational Controller of DPR, Onyebuchi Sibiodu said owners of the sealed Petrol Stations will pay fine and sign an undertaking that they will not flout the rules of the DPR henceforth.
She also said DPR has put measures in place to make sure that depot owners and marketers sell products at a rate that will enable marketers sell at official pump price of N87 per litre.
The Zonal Operational Controller however condemned the acts of owners of filling stations who adjust their pumps to make illegal gains.
According to DPR, “The aim is not just to go out and seal everywhere. If we do that, we will create scarcity. That is not what we want to achieve. We want to create a situation whereby people are able to buy fuel at N87.
“All these while we have been going about warning these filling stations. When we discover we warn you, we give a period of time but you know human beings. The warning period is over and now when we meet you selling above N87 the instruction is that we seal them and then we fine you and make you sign an undertaking.
“We have stages of these punishments.
“We have put measures in place at the Depot area to make sure that what they are supposed to sell is what the marketer is buying. Before now we just depended on their invoices that they issue to people but we have heard stories so we have put additional measures in place.”
