The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) on Tuesday said it has sealed no fewer than 26 petrol stations for allegedly hoarding and selling Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) also known petrol above the official rate of N145.
Head of Operations, DPR Ibadan office, Mr. Sadiq Danjuma made this disclosure while speaking with newsmen during a routine operation of the organization to check the level of compliance of fuel dealers.
Danjuma declared that the government has not increased petrol price, hence they cannot sit down in their offices and allow marketers and dealers to increase pump price arbitrarily.
He said, “Government has not increased fuel price, we cannot allow marketer to be increase the price arbitrarily.
“We are taking more drastic measure against erring filling stations we are not only going seal their stations we will have sanction them for and have their operation licence revoked”.
He informed that one of the reasons the department find it difficult to get rid of the unholy practice is because, “marketers always network among themselves to evade sanction whenever the operatives of DPR are out for monitoring”.
While assuring that other areas in Oyo and Osun states would be covered in few weeks, Danjuma said that the Tuesday’s operation was limited to Ibadan and Oyo town.
He said, “We are still going to other places. We have visited them before and we will surely revisit them and enforce the erring stations to comply”.
