The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has placed three fuel stations in Awka, Anambra State under surveillance for suspected diversion of petroleum products meant for their outlets.
Controller of Operations, Enugu office of DPR in-charge of Anambra, Ebonyi and Enugu state, Mr. Ahmed Gwaram, said this in an interview with newsmen Friday.
Gwaram, who led the field monitoring team, said the products of the marketers had not arrived the petrol stations more than 24 hours after they departed Enugu as at when they visited.
The DPR official decried the increasing cases of product diversion across the country, which he said, was worsening the situation of petrol supply and pricing in the country.
“We are currently monitoring three filling station which have not shown evidence that the product meant for them had been accordingly received and discharged.
“We have instructed them not to discharge the products when they arrive until they get clearance from us.
“These trucks left Enugu more than 24 hours ago; it is expected that they should have arrived but they are claiming the products are still on the way.
“The issue of diversion has become worrisome and the DPR is not going to allow it to thrive in the interest of the masses,” he said.
The DPR team also enforced the sale of petrol at government approved price of N145 per litre in some stations in the capital city.
Gwaram said selling above N145 remained unacceptable as it was a matter of Federal Government policy.
He charged those claiming that they were procuring petrol at above depot price to show their receipt of purchase as evidence.
