Governor Ayodele Fayose, on Friday swore-in new commissioners in Ekiti State, warning them against perceiving themselves as ‘lords’ to the government and the good people of the state.
The two commissioners, Chief Tunde Ogunleye and Mr Ayodeji Alabi, were inaugurated by the governor as members of the state executive council.
Their appointments was sequel to the dissolution of the state exco and the returning of virtually all the commissioners, with the exception of two, Mr Owoseeni Ajayi and Deji Adesua, who were Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice and Public utilities, respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, Fayose, who was represented by his deputy, Prof Kolapo Olusola, advised the appointees to work assiduously to ensure that the state witness tremendous development and refrain from betraying the confidence reposed in them by the people.
He reminded that people of the state voted overwhelmingly for the Peoples Democratic Party in 2014 with the hope that the hard-biting poverty among the populace can be mitigated, advising them to offer service that would be in the overall interest of the citizens rather than for personal gains.
“You could remember that the State Executive was dissolved a couple of weeks ago with the hope to reinvigorate our team for timely delivery of democratic dividends to our people.
“With this, we need the support of intelligent and committed people and that was why we appointed you. As a government, we see you as round pegs in round holes.
“Don’t forget that you are coming at a time when Ekiti needs consolidation. You have to be diligent, so that our electoral promises to the good people of Ekiti can be fulfilled.
“See these opportunities as a call to service. Don’t see yourselves as lords or get carried away by these positions.
“Be courageous and be loyal to the government of Ekiti State. See Ekiti project as achievable and that it can only be achieved through hardwork and selfless service”, he warned.
In his response, Alabi promised that they will be loyal to the people and the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
He said they were not unaware of the enormous tasks ahead and the need to redouble efforts to ensure that the people breathe a sigh of relief in terms of improved standard of living and improved dividends of democracy.
