Don’t misbehave during Bayelsa election – PSC warns policemen

The Police Service Commission (PSC), has warned policemen deployed for Bayelsa governorship election duty on Dec. 5 to avoid any misconduct.

The commission gave the warning in a statement signed by its Head, Press and Public Relations, Mr Ikechukwu Ani, in Abuja on Wednesday.

“The commission wishes to advise all police officers on electoral duty in Bayelsa State to observe the rules and regulations guiding their conduct and also work within the ambit of law.

“The officers are advised to be fair but firm and ensure that all eligible voters are allowed to discharge their civic responsibilities without molestation.

“This is in the exercise of the commission’s constitutional mandate of holding the Police accountable for its actions or inactions.

It said this was part of the commission’s contributions to the sustenance of the nation’s fledgling democracy.

The statement stated that the commission would not hesitate to commence disciplinary action against any police officer caught circumventing the rules before, during or after the elections.

It also warned politicians and voters to conduct themselves in orderly manner, adding that they should refrain from enticing the policemen.

The statement said that a 19-man monitoring team from the commission led by Retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, Yakubu Muhammad would be in Bayelsa.

Similarly, it said the commission would also send a monitoring team for the Kogi supplementary election.

It said that policemen on electoral duty during Nov. 21 governorship election conducted themselves creditably. (NAN)
