Mimiko
The All Progressives Congress (APC), Ondo State Chapter has charged the State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko to give account for all allocations collected since inception of his administration, more than six years ago.
The Party in a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Omo’ba Abayomi Adesanya also challenged the state government to explain to the good people of the state why it should be seeking for N7billion loan ffrom Access Bank when it was yet to clear over N70billion debt on its neck.
Besides, Omo’ba Adesanya cautioned the Federal Government and the Bank involved, against granting such loan for Mimiko, saying the little projects done so far by the government did not justify the N44billion he met in the state coffers and the allocations he has collected since 2009 when he took over the reins of government.
He said Mimiko was only trying to create a mess for incoming government that will take over from him in 2017.
The statement reads, “the good people of Ondo State must ask Mimiko why the state must borrow another N7billion loans when over N70billion was yet to be cleared by the government? Mimiko is only trying to create a mess for the incoming government who will take over from him by 2017 thereby, such new governor will find it difficult to hit the ground running, like what President Muhammadu Buhari’s government inherited from Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.
“We have it on good authority that the said N7billion loan was only meant for the completion of the ‘Dome’ project and the Fiwasaye/Oba-Ile/airport road. These projects have been on since 2009. Mimiko should explain to the people of Ondo State why he should be seeking for loans for the completion of the project which N4.1billion was awarded for Fiwasaye/Oba-Ile/Airport road and N1.5billion was first awarded for Dome project and N2billion when the same Dome was rewarded in 2013.
“The little projects completed by the state government since its inception in 2009, does not justify the over N44billion it met in the state treasury and over N700billion allocations its has collected since 2009. Mimiko has only embarked on window dressing jobs while all our industries and ongoing projects embarked upon by his predecessor, late Governor Olusegun Agagu have been abandoned.
“It will be recalled that when Mimiko’s government came on board, it promised residents of Akure, the state capital that, the major road, Oyemekun/Oba-Adesida will be turned to a “Washington DC”. He proposed to make this road six lanes. Houses and shops were demolished and this project was awarded for N3.2bilion. But, we were shocked that what the contractor could do was removal of street lights and construction of the median along the road for one year.
“The Ondo township road which its his home town was flagged off around the same time at the cost of N3.8billion and up till now, the job is yet to be completed. Mimiko and his co-travelers have grounded the economy of the state while the rate of poverty has increased. The masses cannot eat three square meal. In Ondo State, government taxes have weakened commercial activities in the state. It has gotten to the stage that the poor masses are being denied government facilities through taxation.
“We are urging the federal government and the bank involved not to grant the loan to the government and we are also calling on the lawmakers, who are representatives of the masses to invite the Governor to explain how he had spent the State’s allocations for six years”, the statement reads.
