Don’t expect 18-hour daily power supply – BEDC

The Benin Electricity Distribution Company has informed residents of Sapele in Delta State not to expect 18-hour daily power supply at the moment.

The Executive Director, Commercial, BEDC, Mr. Abu Ejoor, told the residents that even “the power generated to the national grid is not sufficient to service everyone in the country at the moment.”

According to a statement on Tuesday, Ejoor spoke during a meeting between the BEDC and residents of Sapele to fashion out modalities for improved power supply in the area.

“The current 3000-35000MW being generated in the country from which the BEDC’s allocation is just nine per cent is not even enough to service a state, let alone four states under its control,” Ejoor said.

According to the statement, the meeting between the BEDC and Sapele residents, which lasted about three hours, was superintended by the Speaker of the Delta State Assembly, Monday Igbuya.

Others present at the meeting were the Chairman of the Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Power, Peter Onwusanya; the state’s Commissioner for Science and Technology, Joyce Overah; Commissioner for Energy, Newworld Safugha; and the Chairman, Sapele Local Government Area, Ejaife Odebala.
