The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG, in charge of Zone 2, Mr. Bala Hassan, has advised Lagosians against living their lives in such a manner that would promote crimes in the society.
This was as he warned Nigerians to be vigilant and watchful not to allow themselves to be victims of crime through careless attitude.
Hassan gave the advice on Thursday in Lagos, while speaking at the third biennial conference on community policing, organized by the Lagos state Command of the Police Community Relations Committee.
He observed that those who engaged in crime were encouraged to do so because of the ostentatious lifestyles of people around them.
Hassan, while speaking on the theme, ‘PCRC and criminal opportunity,’ said, “As Christmas is fast approaching, we must live a moderate life so that we do not give criminals the opportunity to operate.
“Anything that will make us victims of crime should also be avoided. It is people that give criminals the opportunity to commit crimes and we must ever be vigilant.
“When you go to the bank to withdraw money and you keep the money in your car where the criminal will see it and remove it, are you not the one giving opportunity to the criminal to commit crime?”
The AIG also used the occasion to assure residents of the zone of the police’s preparedness at ensuring a crime-free Yuletide.
On the activities of cultists in the zone, he said the police were working hard to ensure that hooliganism became a thing of the past.
He also advised parents and guardians to ensure that their children and wards keep away from bad friends.
