The governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has advised Nigerian leaders not to disconnect themselves from the people after getting into positions of authority.

According to Fayose, leaders must be conscious of the fact that the positions they occupy should not create a gap between them and their people.

The governor was quoted to have said this in a statement issued in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi.

According to Fayose, the main reason for being a leader was to impact people’s lives positively.

“Apart from being able to gauge the mood of the people and get feedback from them concerning government policies, it is also an avenue to educate them on steps being taken by the government too.

“Not many of them have access to those in authority, and a good leader must be ready to serve and not disconnect himself from those he is leading,” he said.

According to the statement, some of residents of Irewumi Estate on the outskirts of Ado Ekiti, had told the governor about the poor power supply to their community.

In his response, the governor was quoted to have told the residents that the power sector had been privatized and that the people too should be ready to promptly pay their electricity bills.

Promising them more government presence in their community, the governor charged them to support his administration with prayers
