For failing to settle for an Idoma man as his successor, some angry Idoma youths have warned governor Gabriel Suswam of Benue State and the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, not to come into the area for governorship campaign.
The youth group, operating under the auspices of Idoma Youth for Positive Change said since the governor could not keep to the promise he made in 2011 that an Idoma man would succeed him in 2015, he should not come to the area to seek for the people’s votes.
IYPC in a statement mailed to DAILY POST by its President, Daniel Adikwu, lambasted Idoma leaders for allegedly selling out the community for their selfish interest.
The group expressed sadness that after almost 40 years since Benue State was created, no Idoma had served as a governor and its leaders were not bothered about it.
The statement claimed that some top Idoma political leaders deliberately refused to back an Idoma man for the number one seat for fear of being pushed into archive of history.
Adikwu added that time had come for the people rise and kick against the marginalisation of the Idoma people in Benue State.
“We remember vividly that in 2011 during his visit to the Och’Idoma Palace, Suswam begged the Idoma people to give him second term and that he would hand over the baton to an Idoma man in 2015. Our people applauded this decision and gave him nods for second term.
“We recall that no Idoma indigene contested the governorship ticket with Suswam in 2011, believing that the governor would keep to his promise. But the reverse was the case during the primaries.
“What are they trying to tell us? That we are not qualified to govern Benue State? This madness must stop. Since Suswam cannot keep to the other side of the bargain, let him not come to our land to campaign. Because we won’t welcome him.
“It is sad on the part of Idoma leaders because some people believe that once an Idoma man becomes the governor, he would outshine them. This is sad and very unfortunate. Those who sold us out will soon give account for it. Time shall tell,” the statement read in part. .
