Former presidential aspirant under the platform of the defunct Social Democratic Party (SDP) Alhaji Umaru Muhammadu Maizabura has called on the Federal Government to apply the law of mutiny on the country’s service chiefs.
He said this was necessary as they could not provide the needed security for the country’s elections.
Reacting to the postponement of the February 14 general election, Maizabura said Jega should not be blamed, rather, the security chiefs, who said they would not provide security during the stipulated elections.
He said those calling for the resignation of the INEC Chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega were not being fair to him, as it was not his responsibility to provide security.
He stressed that the security chiefs should not only resign but face court marshal for refusing to provide security to the nation.
He said “that is why it is imperative to have state police and the like of Civilian JTF in all states, so that they will provide security to their respective citizens; the security operatives have shown that they have failed. If not because of the civilian JTF in Borno, Boko Haram would have since sacked people from Maiduguri”.
He also stated that the postponement of the election will not deter the opposition, but that it will give more time for the All Progressives Congress to continue with its campaign.
He called on the general public to to be discouraged from taking laws into their hands as the new date would still come very soon.
