Dolphins have been dumped out of this season’s CAF Confederation Cup without kicking a ball, after their opponents, Club African, took advantage of the game’s technicalities to walk them over on Saturday.
The Nigerian club’s travel plans were shrouded in chaos and they left for Tunis via Dubai a day later than planned, because of a bonus row and bad weather.
By the time they arrived in Lagos on Thursday night after the bonus issue was resolved, they had already missed their Emirates Airlines’ flight to Dubai.
Seeing that they would not be able to arrive in Tunis as planned, the Port Harcourt-based club called on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), to plead with CAF to move the match by a day.
But the continental ruling body turned down the request.
Dolphins arrived only hours to the game and missed the crucial pre-match meeting.
It is a repeat of 2013, when US Bitam of Gabon walked over Heartland, who were the Federation Cup champions at the time.
