Dogara debunks rumour of missing budget

PIC. 11. SPEAKER, HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES YAKUBU DOGARA ARRIVING THE LOWER CHAMBER AS THE RESUMPTION OF PLENARY, AFTER THE HOLIDAYS IN ABUJA ON TUESDAY (12/1/16). 0238/12/1/2016/JAU/BJO/NAN

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has dismissed reports that the proposed 2016 budget was missing, stressing that the lower House of the National Assembly still has copies of the document.

According to Dogara, the budget is in the custody of the Clerk to the House of Representatives, hence, it’s almost impossible for anyone to steal it.

Reports on Tuesday had it that both the hard and soft copies of the 2016 budget documents President Muhammadu Buhari presented to the National Assembly went missing.

But Dogara who took to his Tweeter handle @doyakubu yesterday described the story as “an incredible and award winning April fool stunt.”

He Tweeted, “1st April arrived too early this year on Twitter. 2016 Budget estimates stolen at NASS? Pretty funny stuff!

“The budget is in the custody of the Clerk to the House of Representatives. I can confirm no one has broken into his office.

“Each of the two Houses got a copy of the Budget estimate.”
