Doctors suspend 68 days strike in Ondo

The Ondo State Chapter of the National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners, NAGGMDP, has suspended its strike.

The 68-day-old strike resulted from failure of the state government to pay its members their five months salaries.

But a statement issued on Tuesday by Chairman of the association, who is also the State Chairman of Nigeria Medical Association, NMA, Dr. Dolani Gbelela and Secretary, Ismaila Busari, called for the immediate suspension of the strike.

The statement said members decided to suspend the strike following an appeal from their Medical Elders and the public sympathy, noting that NAGGMDP agreed with the government representatives that a month salary will be paid within the next two weeks.

The statement reads: “That the five months’ salary arrears should be paid on or before October 31, 2016.

“That the Ondo state government should pay at least a month salary every month.

“That the elders of NMA appealed to members of NAGGMDP to suspend the above withdrawal of services based on trust and compassionate grounds,” the statement added.
