Disaster as four people die in boat mishap on their way to Tompolo’s father’s burial

It was a great disaster yesterday as four persons lost their lives in a boat mishap on their way to the burial ceremony of the late Tunteriwei

of Gbaramatu Kingdom, High Chief Thomas Osen Ekpemupolo, father of Ex-freedom fighter, High Chief Oweizide Government Ekpemupolo on Friday.

DAILY POST gathered that the four victims werel on their way from the Miller

Waterside, Warri for Kurutie, venue of the burial rites in Warri South-West Local Government Area, Delta State when the incident happened.

An indigene of Gbaramatu community who spoke with DAILY POST but does not want his name in print narrated how the tragic incident occurred. According to him, “We were already at the funeral celebrating Chief.Thomas Ekpemupolo when we got news of the accident.

“Initially, we were told only two persons died. Further details

later revealed that about four persons, three females including one Faith (surname withheld) from Ogulagha, another female from Kurutie and a man apparently from the Northern part of the country, lost their lives in the mishap.

“The Hausa man I gathered was actually not an invited dignitary, but was conveying some wares to trade at the funeral ground.”

The funeral of the late Chief Ekepmukpolo will continue tomorrow (Sunday) with his interment at Okerenkoko, his final rest place where wake keep would be held today (Saturday)l.
