Disabled persons in Rivers call for collective responsibility

Persons living with disability in Rivers State have called on government at all levels to be sensitive to issues concerning the less priviledged in the society.

President of the Niger Delta Coalition of persons with Disabilities, David Enogho made the call in commemoration of Nigeria’s 54th Independence anniversary.

Enogho told DailyPost that the less priviledged had been the most affected since Nigeria attained its independence in 1960.

He said persons living with disability had suffered neglect and had nothing to show in the last fifty four years.

Enogho said: ”Nigeria at 54, what do we have to celebrate about? Is it about the unemployed youths roaming the street? What is the hope for persons with disabilities? What is the hope for the less priviledged people staying in our various communities? These are big questions begging for answers.

“I believe it is high time our leaders woke from their sleep and began to implement strategies, modalities and avenues to ensure that these issues were well addressed, so that the downtrodden and less priviledged in Rivers State will be proud that they are real Nigerians.”

Enogho said developing the nation was meant to be a collective responsibility and should not be left for politicians alone.
