Disabled people protest, boo Mimiko’s aide in Ondo

An event organised by the Ondo State government to celebrate the disables almost turned violent when the Joint National Association of Persons Living with Disabilities (JONAPWD) turned around to stage a protest, and at the same time booed government representatives at the event.

The aggrieved members were protesting over the present administration neglect of their members.

The disable persons reportedly destabilised the annual event organised in Akure, the State Capital.

The Chief of Staff to the Governor, Dr. Kola Ademujimi, who could not withstand the embarrassment quickly left the venue of the events with other government representatives unceremoniously.

The Protesters frowned at the manner the state government has been discriminating against them as if they were not part of the society.

They lamented that their members have not benefited anything from the present government since its inception in 2009.

Many Aggrieved members of the Association who could not hide their disgust, reminded Governor Mimiko of the crucial role they played during his re-election in 2012.

Speaking with reporters, the State Chairman JONAPWD, Mr Olurotimi Olubodede hinged their protest on what he termed “total neglect” by the present government.

The Chairman however urged the State Assembly to quickly pass the bill before that is seeking a review of their welfare.

The Secretary of the Association, Olasuyan Samuel said the disabled have been totally sidetracked in the scheme of things in the State by the present Mimiko’s administration unlike the successive governments.
