Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial district, Dino Melaye has faulted the Presidency for keeping the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu despite his rejection by the Senate.
He described as selective justice that President Muhammadu Buhari refused to remove Magu who has been in acting capacity.
In his valedictory remark during the two years anniversary of the 8th Senate, the lawmaker wondered what Magu is still doing in office having failed confirmation in the Senate.
“Mr. President, distinguished colleagues, the Senate has in the last two years did a lot. But it is selective justice that President Muhammadu Buhari still left Magu in office,” he said.
“Two weeks ago, I raised the issue of National Lottery Regulatory Commission and the DG apologized and left office based on the Senate decision. Why is Magu being kept?” he emphasised
He warned that the Senate would be resistant to all forms of persecution in the next two years, stating that there were obvious persecution of the Senate in the last two years.
Dino who was apparently referring to Senate President’s trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal further issued strong warning that “the independence of Senate would not be allowed to be covered for any reason.”
