A Pan-National Political Group known as Ex-Legislators Forum has urged all those involved in sharing of $115million campaign Slush funds provided by the former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs Allison Madueke to stop blame game and be responsible enough to refund their own part of the loot as they face EFCC interrogation.
In a press statement issued in Abuja and signed by Hon. Tambuwal Ahmed Makarfi, body of ex-parliamentarians, a body comprised of Nigeria’s first Republic lawmakers till date, expressed shock that recoveries made so far from individuals, funds shared by state chapters of opposition Peoples Democratic Party in 2015 general elections was callous and uncalled for.
They emphasised that former governor of Enugu State, Sullivan Chime who is currently facing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) should stop blame game, but own up and refund the N450million he got on behalf of Enugu State Peoples Democratic Party, and was not used for the purposes.
“We recall the latest investigation of former Governor of Enugu State, Mr Sullivan Chime over N450million by EFCC, and we have observed that he was accusing some of his former Aides. We want to remind him that they couldn’t have done anything without his instructions, hence, he should be accountable”, the group noted.
“We advised Sullivan Chime to stop passing the buck and playing a blame game and accept responsibility for receiving, hosting and disbursing the fund purportedly sourced from the Petroleum ministry and shared out through Fidelity Bank”, they added.
“Assuming that the PDP had won the 2015 Presidential election and Former Governor Chime was asked to render account of how the money was spent to the Campaign organization, would he bury his head in the sand, ostrich-like, and declare irrationally as he has been doing, that he shouldn’t be held responsible because his subordinates presided over the expenditure”?, the group wondered.
They reiterated their commitment to get involved in the way and manner elections were conducted and further consultation with younger members of the civil society movements in order to avoid perfidious path of infamy and immoral political misconduct in the future.
