The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Monday hinted on the possibility of repatriating former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Dieziani Alison-Madueke to face trials in the country.
EFCC’s Executive Secretary, Emmanuel Aremu dropped the hint while addressing a coalition of Civil Society Organizations, CSOs, led by ace musician, Charles Oputa popularly known as Charlyboy at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
The protesters led by Charlyboy had besieged the agency’s headquarters demanding that the former Minister be repatriated to face trial over allegations of fraud against her.http://dailypost.ng/2017/08/28/charlyboy-others-storm-efcc-headquarters-demand-repatriation-diezani-photo/
Dieziani has been the subject of various financial probe since the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government assumed office in 2015.
Addressing the protesters, Aremu called for patience, saying the Commission has to follow due process in repatriating the former Minister since Nigeria is in a democratic dispensation.
Aremu, while commending Charlyboy for the protest, said, “What you are doing in getting the support of the youths for the fight on corruption is good but one thing you must realize is that we are in a democratic setup and procedures must be followed.
“Unlike the Military when we craned a Nigerian from London back to the country, that era is done, we cannot do that again. We have MoU, other agreements on how to repatriate alleged citizens which will be followed.
“One thing I will let you know is that we are not relenting our efforts, you all are aware of how much and properties recovered from Dieziani, I beg for your patience, lets follow the due process.
“If the due process is done, Deziani will be repatriated to come and face her crimes.”
