Diezanigate: EFCC detains ex-Benue governor, Suswam

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Thursday, detained and quizzed a former Benue Governor, Gabriel Suswam, over his role in the state’s share of the N23 billion election fund.

Former Petroleum Minister, Alison Madueke allegedly doled out the said money as bribe to influence the outcome of the last presidential election.

Suswam, who is currently facing another set of charges over alleged looting of public funds, arrived the premises of the EFCC around 10 am.

Operatives of the anti-graft agency immediately took him in to answer questions on the N450 million, which the Benue State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party got as its own share of the election booty.

It was gathered that the former governor was detained to enable him tell operatives all that he knew about the N450 million, which he personally collected from a bank and what he did with the amount.

Recall that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in June arraigned Suswam, on a fresh 32-count charge of fraud.

He was accused of diverting sums of money amounting to billions of naira from the Benue State subsidy reinvestment programme, SURE-P.
