Diaby set to be released by Arsenal

The Premier League has published the list of retained players for every club and it appears Arsenal will release Abou Diaby, when his current deal runs out at the end of June.

Diaby has featured just 124 times for the Gunners since he joined nine years ago, having suffered various injuries during his time at the Emirates.

Manager Arsene Wenger had hinted that he was considering offering his compatriot a pay-as-you-play contract.

“By me, yes [a decision has been taken]. I had a chat with him and told him how I can envisage the future. He has to make a decision,” Wenger said at the time.

“Of course he understands completely that he has to perform and to show that he can be present in a consistent way.

“I will see where we go from there. I wouldn’t like to go into details, we have to meet again to see where we go from what I told him. It has to be linked a little bit with his presence.”

It however appears his time at the club is over. Ryo Miyaichi joins Diaby on the list of players who are to be released, after four years at the club.
