One Casmir Eze, who raped a 15-year-old girl, Marcillus Ogechi, at gunpoint has been arrested by the police in Enugu state.
Eze, who fled after he committed the act in Udenu area of the state at the weekend, was arrested on Tuesday.
The spokesperson of the state Police Command, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, who confirmed the incident and the arrest, told newsmen that the suspect was in police custody.
Amaraizu added that full scale investigation had commenced into the development and that Eze would soon be charged to court for the crime.
According to the report, the victim, an orphan, is a Senior Secondary 1 student in an unnamed public secondary school in the area.
In the wee hours of Sunday, the suspect reportedly entered the victim’s family house after scaling a fence that surrounded the compound, thereafter; he reportedly made for Ogechi’s room and ordered her to open the door or risk being killed.
Ogechi who was equally warned not to raise the alarm, eventually opened the door and Eze, who upon entering the room covered his face with a mask, further ordered Ogechi to undress and put off the lantern, after which he forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.
Eze’s arrest came after Ogechi, who identified the victim, informed her relatives of the incident and the case was subsequently reported to the police.
In his statement to the police, Eze owned up to the crime, but he blamed the devil for his decision to rape the girl.
He said he had been nursing amorous feelings for Ogechi for a while, but did not know how to express his intentions to the girl.
He, however, admitted that he was frustrated by the inability to express his feelings.
Eze said, “It was the devil that pushed me into the act. I don’t know what came over me.
“I have been targeting how to get the girl since but I don’t know how to go about it; so I had to come through this way,” he said, begging for forgiveness and promising that he would never express his feeling for girls in such manner again, if he is set free.
