Juan Mata, Memphis Depay and Andreas Pereira scored for Manchester United, as they defeated Major League Soccer side, San Jose Earthquakes 3-1.
Mata opened scoring in the game, before Depay took advantage of a poor back pass to double United’s advantage, eight minutes before half-time. Fatai Alashe pulled one back for the hosts, but Pereira restored Louis van Gaal’s team two-goal lead, heading in Lindergaard’s cross.
United’s next pre-season fixture is against Barcelona in Santa Clara on Saturday. Angel Di Maria is expected to join up with his team-mates on the same day.
When Van Gaal was asked about the Argentine’s future, he refused to confirm if the Red Devils were in negotiations with Paris Saint-Germain, over the sale of their record signing.
“I cannot answer that. “It is a process. When we think we have to say something we will. He will come on 25 July”, he said.
