A Former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, has stated that democracy has come to stay in Nigeria despite the nation’s many challenges and imperfections.

Abubakar who said this in Jos, Plateau State capital, weekend during a courtesy call on Governor Jonah Jang, noted that democracy was still the best option for the nation, stressing that despite its many challenges; Nigeria would still scale through.

He called on Nigerians to be patient as the nation wades through its ‘learning process.’

The former leader regretted the crisis that rocked the once peaceful state in the past and called for collective effort to sustain peace, adding: “May this evil never visit us again.”

Abubakar who was on his way to Bauchi, lauded Jang for the transformation the state had witnessed since he assumed office, noting how he did not recognise Rayfield, where he once served during his military career, because of the new road network built by the present administration.

He urged the governor to continue to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people and enjoined the people to cooperate with government to sustain peace.

While responding, the Governor praised Abubakar for being the midwife of the current democracy in the country, adding that without his patriotism and personal sacrifice, democracy might have remained elusive.

He described him as a man of destiny who has continued to contribute to the development of the country in various capacities.
