Governor Theodore Orji of Abia State Wednesday declared that he had taken the state out of darkness and moved it to light.
According to the governor, the administration before he assumed office was in darkness and operated undemocratically.
Governor Orji said his administration has brought true democracy to the state where consultations are made before decisions and actions are taken.
Orji said this while addressing thousands of Abia people who thronged the Umuahia Township Stadium for the celebration of the 2013 Democracy Day.
He said that his administration has also laid good foundation for solid and sustainable development of the state.
Orji said that before now, what they had in the state was “government of one family by one family which was referred to as Mamacracy”, saying that he has changed it to true democracy of the“government of the people for the people by the people”.
“We have moved Abia nearer to God; we have been able to move Abia out of darkness. It is an achievement. There was no democracy before now, it was just government of family by one family, we have stopped that, and now we have democracy, where consultation is used before things are done”, Orji said.
Earlier in the day, thousands of Abians, made of old and young converged at the Umuahia Township Stadium to join in the interdenominational church service held to mark the day in the state.
Shortly after the church service, the governor, Chief Theodore Orji addressed them and enumerated the achievements of his administration in the last two years of his second term.
Governor Orji disclosed that among his greatest achievement was to have brought Abia state out of darknesss, leading the people into real democracy as well as bringing unity to the state.
He also enumerated his achievements in the areas of security, health, education, infrastructural provision, youth empowerment, judiciary, media, workers welfare as well as commerce, assuring the people that the remaining two years of his administration would be very eventful.
