The Emir of Kanam, in Plateau State, Alhaji Mu’azu Babangida, on Monday said Nigeria is on course, having tamed insurgency and corruption within two years.
The Paramount ruler, who made the pronouncement in a chat with journalists in Kanam, described the effort as “very promising’’ and “encouraging’’ to Nigerian citizens.
Babangida said without peace and discipline in our conducts as citizens, there can be no development in any nation.
He called on the Federal Government to empower the youths in its economic developmental strides, noting that, “the youths are the engine room of national development and should not be ignored.’’
“We have vibrant youths all across the nation and should be involved in turning the economy of the nation around.
“This is because the prevailing recession allowed by God should be seen as a blessing in disguise towards lifting the nation to a greater height, ’’ he argued.
Babangida explained that the diversification policies and programmes of President Muhammadu Buhari’s led administration was part of the good things that had happened to Nigeria.
According to him, before now, the oil was just what we put our hope on, but with the recession, “we have decided to think outside the box and there is the sign that Nigeria will be better off with the diversification policies.
He described Nigeria’s democracy as “very promising’’ and called on politicians to play politics according to the rules of the game to discredit Military from eyeing governance.
“Truth and sincerity should be the watchword of all politicians and leaders of every sort from the wards, Local and Federal Levels as well as Private and public offices, ’’ he admonished.
He frowned at situations where representatives of the people would fail their constituencies and called for seriousness on the side of all leaders.
The traditional ruler, who said two years was not enough for assessing an administration, said there was need for the government to be more pragmatic in its policies and programmes to move the nation forward.
Babangida called on Nigerians to support the Federal Government in its efforts of transforming the country’s economy through it policies and programmes.
