Gov Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has granted amnesty to 11 prisoners serving various jail terms.
This formed part of the activities to commemorate this year’s Democracy Day.
The news Agency of Nigeria, (NAN) reports that the State Commissioner for Information, Yemi Olowolabi, made the disclosure in Akure on Tuesday while briefing newsmen in the state.
Olowolabi said that the prisoners had been duly convicted of various terms of imprisonment.
He said, “They were freed by the governor in exercise of the power conferred on him by Section 212 (1) (d) of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended.”
The governor, therefore, charged the beneficiaries of the special grace and mercy to shun criminalities and embrace a new life of peace and productivity with a view to contributing to the growth of the Nigerian nation.
