Angry protesters Wednesday barricaded major roads leading to Warri, Delta State over alleged failure of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC, to provide them with electricity supply.
The peaceful protesters, who thronged the roads in their numbers, are from Effurun in Uvwie Local Government Area.
The protesters, who displayed placards with various inscriptions, chanted solidarity songs as they barricaded Effurun/Sapele, East-West road as well as the NPA expressway all leading to inside the oil city of Warri.
The action of the protesters caused serious vehicular traffic along the roads as persons going to work were forced to trek long distance.
The protesters called on the Federal Government to withdraw the power supply arrangement entered into with the BEDC with immediate effects.
One of the protesters, Comrade James Banky, in a chat with newsmen, said they cannot continue to stay in darkness especially when they pay their light bills.
Banky stressed that the BEDC has shown that it is grossly incapable of providing power to the masses.
“The Federal Government must relieve them of the job by giving the contract out to a more capable and reliable company,” he said.
