Delta community protests over four months power outage, threaten to sue BEDC

As Nigerians celebrate Workers’ Day all over the country, residents of Idiaregbe Street in Okumagba Layout, Warri Delta State, today protested over four months power outage in their area, DAILY POST can report.

The residents, particularly youths who came out their hundreds danced through the adjoining streets to Idiaregbe, chanting solidarity songs.

The angry protesters carried placards with various inscriptions.

Speaking on behalf of the protesters, a barber who identified himself simply as Brume threatened to drag the Benin Electricity Distribution Company,BEDC to the Benin Office of the National Electricity Regulation Council as well as other Courts of competent jurisdiction for subjecting them to darkness in the past four months.

Brume claimed the BEDC refused to repair or replace a transformer after it developed faults early January because some people are owing the distribution company the sum of twelve million Naira.

Brume said,”BEDC refused to repair the transformer since it developed fault. We complained to them but they didn’t listen to us. We’ve done all we could do peacefully but nothing.

“What BEDC is doing in this area is wrong. We pay our bills, yet they kept us in darkness for about four months now. This is wickedness and if BEDC doesn’t come to fix this transformer, we have no option than to take them to NERC and the court to settle the matter there because we are not fools.”
