No fewer than five persons were in the early hours of Thursday killed in a fatal auto crash which occurred along the Otor-Iyede expressway in Isoko North local government area of Delta State.
While reports say the driver of the car, a Camry with registration number AA 237 ASB, sustained fatal injuries and was admitted into the General Hospital in the community unconscious, an eyewitness, Ebele John told DAILY POST that the accident occurred through a head-on collision with a Lexus SUV with registration number: AA 229 ABS.
He said, “it was a face-to-face collision, and five persons in the Carmry died on the spot, except the driver who sustained fatal injuries, and was not talking. In the jeep, was just the driver and two persons who were not injured at all but the jeep damaged”.
It was gathered that the cause of the accident could not be ascertained as the two persons in the Lexus SUV were said to have fled the scene, and abandoned the victims to their fate when it became clear that they were dead on the spot.
But the state Commander, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Random Kulven, who spoke to DAILY POST in Asaba, said, “The driver of the Lexus Jeep was drunk, he ran into the Carmry car on face to face collision. Unfortunately, the two persons escaped. We have removed the vehicle to our office, while the corpses of the five victims were taken to the FMC Mortuary, Asaba. The driver of the Carmry is unconscious and admitted into the General Hospital. Investigation is ongoing to know other issues in the accident”.
Sources say that Otor-Iyede expressway have become death trap, following its deplorable condition as no fewer than thirteen persons have lost their lives through fatal crashes.
A resident, Elohor Mabel told DAILY POST that, “the bad road has contributed to the frequent accidents. Sometimes, vehicles crash into the deep hole, and ram into the bush. We are appealing to the state government to come to our aid by fixing the road”.
