Factional chairman of the Delta State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Prophet Jones Erue on Wednesday stated that only the national body of the party can grant automatic ticket to any aspirant contesting for elective positions within its fold.
He spoke against the backdrop of the unveiling of the immediate past governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan to the APC national caucus yesterday.
In a chat with DAILY POST, Erue noted that the party must have a reason for granting any aspirant an automatic ticket.
Reacting to speculations that free senatorial ticket will be granted to the former governor as against the wishes of other aspirants who have been working for the party, he said, “only the national body of the APC can grant automatic ticket to anybody. There must be a reason for it. It is not in my power to say the party will give automatic ticket to anyone.”
While welcoming Uduaghan into the APC, he stated that the former governor has the right to pursue his political aspiration within the party.
Erue however stated that Uduaghan has not intimated him that he is contesting for the Delta South senatorial seat.
“As far as I am concerned, Dr. Uduaghan has not told me he wants to contest. Let’s wait for him to declare his intentions first and stop this speculations that will not do our polity any good.”
