Enugu State Governor, Barr. Sullivan Chime has described politicians who defect from one party to another after losing primary elections as spoilers and gamblers.

Chime made the assertion on Wednesday at Nkanu West Local Government Area of the State at the Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship campaign rally.

He said a true PDP member should remain steadfast and abide by the party’s decision.

The Governor, who was apparently referring to the defection of two members of the party in Enugu East senatorial zone from the PDP to the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, said if such people were genuine party members they would have supported its candidates.

He equally ruled out godfatherism in the party, stressing “nobody is a god-father in PDP; I am nobody’s god-father; PDP is god-father to all of us in the party.

“In the case of our governorship candidate, the PDP brought him out and you can see that the support for him is overwhelming.

“He is so popular such that even all the other parties are afraid to present candidates”.

The Governor used the opportunity of the rally to reconcile former minister of information, Frank Nweke Jnr and the party’s senatorial candidate, Senator Gil Nnaji, as they embraced each other as a sign of peace.

Nweke had been in court challenging the PDP primary election, which produced Nnaji.

Chime, however said, “PDP is not known for court cases; I am sure he has abandoned his court case and that is why he is here”.

The chairman of Nkanu East Council Area, Hon. Afam Okereke, got accolades from all the speakers at the rally, especially Governor Chime, who described his performance within one year as unprecedented.
