Defections: Senate leader, Lawan denies ‘bribe for loyalty’ among APC lawmakers

Nigeria’s Senate leader, Senator Ahmed Lawan on Tuesday denied that the ruling All Progressives Congress Senators and the House of Representatives members took bribe from the presidency.

He stated this while addressing the caucus meeting of the upper and lower Chambers at Sheraton Hotel and Towers, Abuja.

Ahmed, however, explained that the defection that hit the ruling APC was tempting but that some of the lawmakers have survived the temptation.

According to him, bribe taking was a culture of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“Mr. Chairman, we are in a season of defections and reflections and I assure you that those of us here have survived defection and we are loyal.

“Nobody here collected bribes to remain in APC as being circulated in the media. Those behind the bribe for loyalty stories are the opposition which you and I know is their culture,” he said.

The Senate leader tasked the National Chairman of APC, Adams Oshiomhole to quickly resolve party disputes arising from the Congress.

He added that some lawmakers from both Chambers that defected to the Peoples Democratic Party were regretting their actions.

Ahmed further suggested automatic tickets for lawmakers that were loyal to the party during the primary elections scheduled for September.
