The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole has hailed former Minority Leader of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, for resigning from the position.
Speaking at a rally on Wednesday to welcome Akpabio into the APC, Oshiomhole claimed that it was a step that the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, would not take.
“Godswill Akpabio resigned his position as Minority Leader to join APC, something that Bukola Saraki cannot do,” he said.
Saraki, speaking at a world press conference earlier in the day, insisted that he would not resign from his position.
According to him, his removal must be by two-third majority of the Upper Chamber.
“Let me reiterate that neither myself, Deputy Senate President or Speaker belong to the class of politicians that are desperate to stay in power by all means and at all costs.
“The day, two thirds of our members feel they do not have confidence in our leadership, we will gracefully bow out.
“I repeat again and again, this is not about us, but about respecting the constitution and the rule of law,” Saraki said.
