Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, has denied being responsible for the defection of some members of the Kwakwansiyya (Kwankwaso) group from the All Progressives Congress, APC, to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state. Obaseki made the denial in a statement by his Special Adviser, Media and Communication Strategy, Crusoe Osagie on Friday.
Members of the group, which are loyal to the former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, in Edo State, had during the week dumped the APC for the PDP.
The statement made available to reporters in Benin City, the state capital said, “The focus of Governor Obaseki is governance and getting the dividends of democracy to the ordinary Edo people.
“While he holds every member of the political party in high esteem, his first loyalty is to the Edo masses.
“They are the ones whose mandate he carries and they always come first.”
The alleged aggrieved members of the APC, led by Osamede Adun, announced their defection from the party in Benin on Thursday.
They said the Governor’s “leadership style” and “lack of political patronage” forced them out of the ruling party.
