Death toll rises to 5 in fresh Kaduna crisis

No fewer than 5 persons have lost their lives, with scores injured and property worth millions of naira destroyed, in a fresh crisis that erupted in kaduna, at the weekend.

A source who resides within the crisis zone told DAILY POST that, “there was a fracas that emanated from an argument at a popular football viewing centre in Kabala North of Kaduna, owing to fallout from a popular football pool called, ‘Bet Naija.’

He said, the situation, however, turned sour when, one of the viewers (Christian) was allegedly stabbed in the stomach region by a Muslim football fan and was later confirmed dead at the hospital.

The youths of the area subsequently took to the street on a killing spree, destroying property at sight.

“Just last night (Sunday night), they came in quietly and killed 3 persons. They always come at night.Though the area appears calm now due to the presence of security operatives dispatched to the area,” the source told DAILY POST.

Another source who pleaded anonymity disclosed to DAILY POST that, “It was in a reprisal attack to the killing of Saturday evening, that some Gwari youths murdered 3 Muslims around Kabala junction and one mosque was also demolished.”

It was gathered that some Muslim youths in Tudu-wada area of Kaduna state are allegedly reinforcing to align with those in Kabala to continue fanning the ember of the crisis.

Meanwhile, DAILY POST authoritatively confirmed that, some hoodlums were arrested around the two communities, following reports of threats to law and order by security patrols in the areas. Samuel Aruwan, spokesperson to Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai confirmed the arrests. He disclosed that the suspects would be charged to court as soon as the investigations were concluded.

Governor Elrufai also refuted stories making the round on social media that the crisis had escalated to other parts of Kaduna town leading to the killing of a few persons and others injured while advising those peddling false stories to desist from such.
