Interim Management Committee Chairperson of Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Hajiya Hadiza Ladi Yahuza, has expressed dismay that after conducting verification exercises in the council, names of dead staff were still featuring on the payroll of the local government .
She also revealed that some retired staff of the local government and those on transfer to other local government areas were still featuring in the council’s payroll.
According to the local government lnterim Management Committee Chairperson, about 60 of the workers not verified were still featuring on the payroll, expressing optimism that a clean payroll of the local government would soon be ready.
Haiya Yahuza, who disclosed this while speaking to journalists said, ”The most challenging issue before us as local government Chairmen is the payment of our workers salaries. We are doing all we can to make sure that we have clean payrolls in the system to be able to pay the staff what is due to them.”
Speaking further on the staff verification exercise, she explained, “We have gone very far and we have made successes out of it, we have been able to identified our actual staff are and we are almost concluding on the payroll.
“Before now, we met a workforce that was demoralized because they were not paid for several months. But with the last exercise, the chairmen are now paying salaries, we are now finding things more comfortable and all the challenges would soon be over.”
Meanwhile, she said her desire for Chikun was to leave a workforce that is highly motivated, ready with skills and competent to face the challenges of the present contemporaries.
