Day 140 of abduction: BBOG Group tasks FG to hasten the release of Chibok girls

The #BringBackOurGirls Group has vowed not to stop its demonstration until the remaining 219 of the Chibok schoolgirls abducted by the Boko Haram sect on April 14 were brought back to their parents, who are eagerly waiting for their return.

The group, which marched to Berger Junction in Abuja yesterday distributing fliers and pamphlets in commemoration of the 140th day of the girls’ captivity, requested the federal government to hasten its effort in rescuing of the girls. It said that considering the length of time the girls had been left with their abductors, the parents were curious as to when their children would be returned to them.

According to the group, “the Chibok parents are tired of waiting. They are asking questions. Where is the Nigerian government? Why are their daughters still in the hands of their captors? If it was their daughters, would they have stayed this long, or would they have been rescued within 24 hours?

“We are the representatives of the girls. We will not keep quiet; we will continue in our advocacy. We will not be harassed or intimidated. We will stand with them until every one of them is brought back. We will not leave the street. We imagine the pains of the Chibok girls. We did not give birth to them but still have empathy with them, because they are Nigerians and deserve to be treated as one and be rescued.

“It is the right of the Chibok girls to be rescued. It is not a privilege. That is why we are calling on the leaders of the country to bring back the girls. It is no longer business as usual, but business unusual. Nigerian government is capable of rescuing the girls, but we don’t know why the simple act of setting them free has become a long issue. We are the Giant of Africa. We want to know if our nation is still the Giant of Africa. The nation should stand up for them,” the BBOG Group said.

The resolve of the BBOG Group to embark on street protests every 10 days has seen members of the group taken their protest to Asokoro, Maitama and the Eagle Square in Abuja.this is with the aim of continually keeping alive in the minds of Nigerians the unending captivity of the abducted schoolgirls and what they must be going through with each passing day.
