Former Senate President and PDP candidate for the much talked-about Benue South Senatorial election, David Mark has debunked reports in some quarters that he sanctioned the cross-carpeting of few members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the APC.
He described the report as a cheap ”propaganda being peddled by the APC candidate for the Benue South Senatorial Rerun election, Mr. Daniel Onjeh and his hired social media miscreants.’’
In a statement issued by Comrade James Oche, National Coordinator, Door to Door for David Mark, the former Senate President was not even in his hometown, Otukpo, as alleged by the report believed to have emanated from a pseudo Facebook account allegedly managed by Dan Onjeh of the APC.
Below is his full statement:
“Our attention has been drawn to some barefaced lies and cheap propaganda being peddled by the APC candidate for the Benue South Senatorial Rerun election, Mr. Daniel Onjeh and his hired social media miscreants.
In one of their latest jokes released on Monday through one Godwin Abah, a psydo Facebook account created and managed by Onjeh himself, and being circulated by his online machineries, it was alleged that Senator David Mark addressed his Supporters in his country home, Otukpo, yesterday; wherein he enjoined his followers not to bother over the defection of Steven Lawani and others to APC.
In the said piece which was crudely parboiled by some unintelligent liars, Senator Mark was quoted as saying the defection of some PDP members was in collaboration with his admonition that the Idoma people should not play the politics of opposition.
They also went further to say that the Distinguished Senator could have defected alongside Lawani and Co, but for the forthcoming rerun election.
Like many other lies told and fed to their gullible audience, this again is one of the ‘April Fools’ cracked by Onjeh and his group in the month of January.
As at the time they alleged that the former Senate President was addressing his supporters in Otukpo yesterday, the distinguished Senator was busy attending to some important national dignitaries who paid him a courtesy visit in his residence in Abuja, shortly after the Sunday mass.
Could it then have been possible for a man to appear in two distanced places at a given time? The way and manner in which the story was concocted and the level of intelligence of the preponderants left no one in doubt that, that was also one of the machinations of Mr. Onjeh and his army of hired ancillary propagandists.
How on earth would they have imagined that the most respected Senator and the pillar of democracy in Nigeria would condescend to the point of making an open address that he could have defected if not for the impending rerun election?
Did Onjeh put words in his (Senator Mark’s ) mouth when he reiterated his commitment to his party, PDP a year ago and vowed to remain steadfast even if he is the last man standing?
Senator Mark is known for what he says and does and like a real man and trained Soldier that he is, he would not be party to any form of cowardice, which is noticeable among the decampees that are obviously looking for soft landing and/or milk jacket with the opposition party, APC.
Let it be known to Onjeh and his litany of social media miscreants that, like every other lies they have tried to sell in the past; this too, has become unsellable as the people of zone C have discovered their antics which they say is synonymous with the the name Dan Onjeh.
It’s also very pertinent to acknowledge that, the more campaigns of hates and calumny that the Onjeh camp orchestrates, the more popular our Senator becomes and the more sympathies he records from the people, who were hitherto hoodwinked by the clothed lies Onjeh was known for.
On a final note, our amiable illustrious David Mark remains unperturbed with the plethora of lies. Rather, he appreciates the supports and solidarity he has enjoyed so far from his constituents.
He has given his words that he won’t fail his people and we are so sure that Zone C people would come out enmasse and vote for the man who has done so much to put Idoma nation in national and international map.”
