Brazil defender David Luiz, has confirmed that he broke his nose, during their 2-0 win over Mexico in the Confederations Cup.

The Chelsea player came off worse, after a first-half collision with fellow defender Thiago Silva, while they both attempted to clear a free-kick inside the penalty box.

Although Luiz played the entire 90 minutes, he revealed that he might have to undergo surgery later in the summer.

“Yes, my nose is broken, but that’s part of the game,” he told reporters. “Now I’ll have to wait until the end of the competition and undergo a surgery to fix it.”

The Selecao qualified for the semi-finals, thanks to Neymar’s stunning goal and Jo’s late second and Luiz spoke about the atmosphere inside the stadium.

“It was thrilling, it gave me the chills. It’s one of the best sensations i’ve had in my life, to see the whole stadium singing with passion.

“We’ll always make sure to give our best to these people, but it was an even bigger incentive to get on the pitch.”
